Jakarta-Yogyakarta Bus Hits Barrier on Krapyak Toll Road, 15 Passengers Dead

SEMARANG - A fatal accident involving a PO Cahaya Trans bus occurred at the Krapyak Toll exit junction, Semarang City, Monday, December 22, early morning. The incident resulted in 15 passengers dying and dozens of others being injured.

The PO Cahaya Trans bus with the police number B-7201 IV with the fleet code MB-218 was known to be traveling from Jakarta (Jatiasih) to Yogyakarta. When entering the connecting lane or RAM 3 exit of the Krapyak Toll Road, the bus allegedly drove at high speed until it finally hit the road divider.

The hard collision caused a number of passengers to bounce and get stuck in the bus body. The joint SAR team was immediately deployed to the location to carry out the evacuation process and emergency handling of the victims.

Provisional data recorded a total of 34 people as victims in the incident. A total of 19 passengers were declared safe, while 15 others died on the spot or after receiving medical treatment.

Head of the Semarang Basarnas Office, Budiono, said all passengers had been successfully evacuated by a joint team consisting of Basarnas, Police, Health Service, Jasa Marga, and PMI.

A total of 17 people survived the accident. Some of them suffered serious injuries.

All the survivors and the deceased have been evacuated and taken to a number of referral hospitals in Semarang City, including Dr. Kariadi General Hospital, Tugu Hospital, and Columbia Asia Semarang Hospital for further treatment.

Budiono added that the bus hit the road divider on the Krapyak Toll Road exit due to high speed while passing through a bend. Until now, the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police. Data on the 15 victims of the PO Cahaya Trans bus accident is not yet known.
