BOGOR - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized that the preservation of bamboo art is not enough to stop at the inheritance of tradition. What is needed is a sustainable ecosystem that is able to drive education, cultural diplomacy, to creative economy.

The statement was made by Fadli when closing the Bamboo Workshop and Seminar themed Living Heritage, Sustainable Creation in the Sunda Paseban Cultural Village, Megamendung, Bogor Regency, Saturday, December 20. This activity was attended by art teachers from Bogor City and Regency.

Fadli emphasized that angklung is not just a traditional musical instrument. The bamboo instrument has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage and is now actively played in various international forums, including Indonesia's diplomatic agenda. "Angklung has been present on the world stage. The challenge now is how the ecosystem continues to live and grow," he said.

According to Fadli, bamboo has cultural values as well as ecological and economic functions. Since ancient times, bamboo has been used for household tools, manuscript recording, to environmental support. If developed seriously, bamboo art can be a driver of the cultural industry and creative economy based on local wisdom.

He also highlighted the strategic role of art and culture teachers. Fadli called teachers the key to the regeneration of cultural actors. "The cultural ecosystem is not born from ceremonies, but from a consistent learning process in schools and educational spaces," he said.

This workshop and seminar was held by the Directorate of Cultural Facilities and Infrastructure together with the Regional Cultural Preservation Center IX on December 18-20, 2025. Activities include bamboo preservation training, exhibition of participants' works, and a concert of the angklung orchestra involving more than 100 art teachers.

Fadli hopes that similar activities will be expanded to schools so that bamboo art is not only sustainable, but also relevant for young generations and able to create sustainable cultural added value.
