DLHK Checks For Oil Spills On Saba-Purnama Beach, Gianyar

GIANYAR - Head of the Environmental Service (DLH) of Gianyar Regency, Bali, Ni Made Mirnawati, said that his party would check for oil spills along Saba Beach to Purnama Beach, Gianyar, Bali.

"Let us check first and later we will determine what the follow-up will be. Why the oil spill occurred, we must know," said Mirnawati, when contacted Thursday, May 27.

If it was the entrepreneur who caused the oil spill, DLHK would follow up. If the oil spill causes environmental pollution, it will be reported to the authorities.

"That includes environmental pollution. If there is a report, we will definitely follow up. If we happen to have no civil servant investigator. This is what we do is report too. To be sure to the police," he added.

"If we do an investigation, we have no authority. However, once there is a complaint from the public we follow up. First we check it in the field, then if it is necessary to report it because there is an element of intent or how can we report it," said Mirnawati.

Previously, the Head of the Denpasar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Agency (BPSPL), Permana Yudiarso, said that his party was investigating the oil spill along Saba Beach towards Purnama Beach, Gianyar, Bali.

The discovery of black liquid which was an oil spill along Saba Beach towards Purnama Beach, Gianyar, Bali, originated from the report of I Ketut Sumastika local residents to the Denpasar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Agency (BPSPL).

Then, the Denpasar BPSPL team, dispatched a team to Saba Asri Sea Turtle Conservation to coordinate gathering this information.

Many black lumps are found on the beach sand that looks like rocks and is shaped like liquid asphalt along Saba Beach to the border with Purnama Beach.

The team in the field took several samples of oil clumps as material to be followed up.

"Again, browse the information from where (oil spills). We have to test the oil laboratory. Because (the oil) was found in pieces, "said Yudi.
