Heavy Rain with Lightning Disrupted Jakarta Friday Morning to Afternoon

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning regarding the potential for extreme weather in the Jabodetabek area on Friday, December 19. Rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds are predicted to occur evenly from Friday afternoon to evening.

The condition of the Jakarta sky and its surroundings was observed to be thick clouds in the early hours of Friday, December 19. Entering Friday morning, light rain intensity began to wet the Thousand Islands, Depok, and Bekasi. The movement of these rain clouds is expected to expand and increase in intensity as the time changes towards Friday afternoon.

Based on weather forecast data, the South Jakarta, East Jakarta, South Tangerang, and Bogor areas have the potential to experience moderate rain. Surface winds blow from the southwest to the west at speeds of 25 to 35 kilometers per hour. This wind speed needs to be watched out for because it risks toppling trees or damaging billboards.

BMKG also highlighted the relatively high air humidity, ranging from 68 to 98%. For the Bogor area, the air temperature is expected to be cooler in the range of 20 to 28 degrees Celsius, while other buffer areas are at 24 to 28 degrees Celsius.

People who are active outdoors, especially in West Jakarta and North Jakarta, are asked to remain vigilant against sudden weather changes. Lightning and thunder are potentially appearing in the midst of moderate rain showers. The local government through related agencies is urged to ensure that drainage channels function optimally to prevent waterlogging in vulnerable points.
