Russian FSB foils terror with 10-kilogram homemade explosive in government building

JAKARTA - The Russian Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Security Service (FSB) foiled a terror plot near a government building in Volgodonsk, Rostov region, southern Russia.

A student with 10 kilograms of improvised explosive devices was arrested, the FSB told TASS as quoted (19/12).

"A terrorist attack planned by the special services of the Kiev regime in a crowded place in Volgodonsk has been thwarted," he explained.

"Police patrol arrested a 16-year-old female student from a regional university, who was heading to the city administration building, carrying a heavy backpack that looked suspicious to the police," said the FSB.

FSB mine experts arrived at the scene to confirm that there was an explosive in his backpack.

Later, it was found that there was an explosive with a time fuse that weighed the equivalent of 10 kilograms of TNT.

In the plan attributed to Ukraine, the girl was supposed to hand over her backpack to a certain official near the entrance to the city administration building at 13:00 Moscow time.

"Although the student explained that about a month ago she was a victim of online fraud, the girl may actually have become a suicide terrorist," the FSB said.
