JAKARTA - The United States Ambassador to the United Nations confirmed that President Donald Trump would not allow Israel to annex any part of the West Bank, Palestine.

Speaking during a session of the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday night U.S. time, he said President Trump expects an end to violence in the West Bank.

"The United States remains focused on maintaining Israel's security and the stability of Gaza and the West Bank," Jennifer Locetta told the UN Security Council, launching Al Arabiya and Reuters (17/12).

"President Trump has been very clear, the United States expects violence in the West Bank to end, and the United States will not allow the annexation of the West Bank," he added.

The West Bank is home to 2.7 million Palestinians who have limited self-rule under Israeli military occupation. Hundreds of thousands of Israelis have settled there.

Most world powers consider Israeli settlements, on land it captured in the 1967 war, illegal, and many U.N. Security Council resolutions have called on Israel to halt all settlement activity.

Israel denies the settlements are illegal, citing biblical and historical ties to the land.
