JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has uncovered an illegal abortion practice operating in a Bassura apartment unit, Jalan Jenderal Basuki Rahmat, Cipinang Besar, East Jakarta. The prohibited practice is known to have taken place from 2022 to 2025 and is marketed through a website.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation (Dirkrimsus) of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Edy Suranta Sitepu, said that the disclosure of this case began with information from the public received by investigators in November 2025 regarding illegal abortion practices in one of the apartments in East Jakarta.

"From the results of the disclosure, it was found that this illegal abortion practice was marketed through a website with two account names, namely the Promedis Abortion Clinic and the Raden Saleh Abortion Clinic," he told the media at the Polda Metro Jaya, Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Edy explained, Subdit 4 Tipidter Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya conducted an investigation by posing as a registrant through the website and communicating directly with the admin.

After conducting observations at the location, officers found two women with initials KWN and R in the south lobby of the Bassura apartment in East Jakarta.

"Then after it was found out that one of the black Daihatsu Xenia vehicles picked up the woman and then took her to the PD parking lot," he said.

The officers who followed the movement then saw the two being picked up by a man with the initials LN and taken to the apartment elevator.

"After the LN came down from the upper floor, the officers immediately made an arrest and asked the person concerned to show the location of the abortion practice," said Edy.

The officers then went to the 28th floor of unit 28A, where the abortion practice was carried out. Inside the room, the police secured four other perpetrators. A total of seven suspects, namely initials NS, RH, M, LN, YH, KWM, and R.

From the results of the search and processing of the crime scene, investigators found traces of blood, cotton swabs, and a number of medical equipment. All the evidence was then tested for DNA, including the patient who was undergoing an abortion.

"DNA test results show the match between the blood found at the crime scene and one of the patients," he explained.

In this case, the police seized a number of evidence, including one unit of Daihatsu Xenia car, medical equipment such as vacuum equipment, drugs, scissors, cotton with blood, and six mobile phones.

To hold the suspects accountable for their actions, they were charged with Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, including Article 60, Article 427, and Article 428.

"The threat of punishment varies from 4 years to 12 years in prison, depending on the role and involvement of each suspect. This case is still being developed," he concluded.*
