Member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sudjatmiko, responded to the government's plan to build 2,000 units of houses or permanent housing for disaster victims in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.

According to him, local governments must play an active role in accelerating the preparation process, especially related to land availability.

"Local governments must move quickly to prepare the right land for the construction of houses for disaster victims," Sudjatmiko told reporters, Wednesday, December 17.

He emphasized that the housing development step remains an important and urgent policy to ensure that people affected by disasters can immediately return to a decent and safe life.

"Determining the location is very crucial so that the construction process can be carried out immediately without obstacles," he added.

The PKB legislator from the West Java VI District emphasized that the location of the permanent residence must be carefully selected by considering the security aspects of potential subsequent disasters, accessibility, and proximity to the residents' sources of livelihood.

He also emphasized that the land used is ideally not far from the home and the original environment of the community affected by the flood.

"The location of the permanent residence should not be too far from the previous community's house, so that they are not uprooted from the social environment, economic activities, and access to education and other basic services," explained Sudjatmiko.

Sudjatmiko hopes that coordination between the central government and local governments can run optimally so that the housing development program for disaster victims in Sumatra can be implemented on time and really answer the needs of the community.

"Commission V of the DPR RI will continue to monitor the program so that its implementation is in accordance with the planning, is targeted, and provides long-term benefits for disaster victims," he concluded.

Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that he would form a Task Force (Satgas) for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of disasters that occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra and South Sumatra. Later, this Task Force will build temporary and permanent housing for residents affected by disasters.

This was stated by President Prabowo when giving directions to the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, Monday, December 15.

Prabowo said that he received a report from the Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, that starting Sunday, December 16, the government would likely build as many as 2,000 houses.

"Maybe starting this Sunday we will build 2,000 houses, this is likely to be a permanent house, so all elements of cooperation should not find excuses to find land, use state-owned land if necessary PTPN, if necessary forest concessions, we use all of them," said Prabowo.

Regarding the budget, Prabowo said the government had prepared the State Budget and Expenditure (APBN) obtained from the results of savings made by the government.

"The state budget has been prepared and I say that we have prepared this budget because the money is there. The money is there, it is precisely our government that I lead, we save hundreds of trillions that I am attacked on the insults that this efficiency is wrong," said Prabowo.
