PIDIE JAYA - The victims of flash floods in Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh Province, need mud handling equipment such as shovels and hoes to clean their houses from the flood debris.

"We need tools such as shovels, hoes, and others to clean up the mud piles that are covering almost all of the residents' houses in this village," said Dahlan (68), a victim of flash floods in Pidie Jaya, Antara, Sunday, December 14.

Dahlan is a resident of Gampong Geunteng, Meurah Dua District, Pidie Jaya Regency. The retired teacher is now sheltering in a meunasah which is not far from his house.

He said the mud caused by the flash flood triggered by the overflow of Krueng Meureudu covered his house and other residents' houses with a height ranging from waist to adult.

"Currently, every day we dredge the mud pile with makeshift tools, but not optimally. We need shovels, hoes, and other tools to dredge the mud," he said.

Dahlan also admitted that he was unable to hire others to help clean the mud in his house which was affected by flash floods in late November 2025.

"We can't clean the house with our own energy. Likewise, to hire someone else, we have no money. The salary is up to Rp. 200,000 per person," he said.

Meanwhile, Keuchik Geunteng Usman said that the residents affected by flash floods in his village reached 697 people or 220 families. Of this number, 553 people were forced to evacuate.

"Currently, residents are displaced in four points, including in the local meunasah, the village head's office, and several other locations around the village. In addition, there are two public kitchens that serve the food needs of flood victims every day," he said.

Regarding the condition of residents' houses, Usman said that as many as 158 houses were severely, moderately, and lightly damaged. All houses were buried in mud with a height of up to 2.5 meters.
