SEMARANG - Semarang City Government together with BBWS Pemali Juana held a Final Community Consultation Meeting (PKM) to discuss the Study and Determination of West Flood Canal (KBB) and Garang River Sempadan lines. This meeting became a strategic forum to ensure that river arrangement was carried out technically appropriately, environmentally friendly, and socially equitable.

The Mayor of Semarang, Agustina Wilujeng emphasized that the river is a gift as well as an important component of the urban ecosystem that must be protected. "The river is a source of life. If it is not managed, it turns into a source of disaster. Therefore, we must maintain cleanliness and sustainability," he said on Wednesday (10/12).

On this occasion, the Semarang City Government also highlighted the issue of sedimentation, garbage, and narrowing river space which often triggers flooding. The mayor asked the sub-district, village head, and river-care community to be more active in maintaining the cleanliness of the river flow, including ensuring that flood control pumps are not disturbed by waste.

The Semarang City Government is preparing innovative steps to map the drainage congestion point through current simulations using a GPS chip ball. The mapping results will be used to determine the location of the repair and control of the building that blocks the flow of water.

Determination of the river commensurate line will be an important basis for the preparation of RDTR, river normalization, cliff strengthening, and coaching for residents who live along the river channel. This decision provides certainty for the government and society, which areas can be used and which must be returned to the river space," explained the Mayor.

The Semarang City Government welcomes the BBWS approach which not only prioritizes technical aspects, but also takes into account the social conditions of the community. Therefore, residents are asked to submit objections and input openly in the final PKM forum.

The event closed with a joint invitation to protect the river as a clean, safe, and beneficial living space for future generations. (ADV)
