MEDAN - Medan City Government, North Sumatra has extended its disaster emergency response status for 14 days from December 11 to December 24, 2025.

Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas said the status extension was an effort by the government to optimize the recovery process after experiencing a flood disaster on Thursday (27/11).

"The Disaster Emergency Response Period in Medan City has been extended. We are looking at Medan City at this time, in the recovery process. So it is necessary to handle it more optimally during the extension of this Disaster Emergency Response period," said Rico Waas in Medan, Thursday, December 11, as reported by ANTARA.

He said the extension of the disaster emergency response status was also an effort to mitigate disaster management related to extreme rain that occurred on December 8- December 15, 2025 based on BMKG's appeal.

During the disaster response period, Rico Waas instructed all his staff to improve coordination and follow up on post-flood public services.

In addition, he added that the local government had prepared handling efforts, including repairing all public facilities affected by the disaster.

"We will continue to activate the Disaster Command Post at the Multipurpose PKK building in Medan City until December 25, 2025. The Disaster Command Post is expected to be able to accommodate the needs of people affected by the disaster during this recovery period," he said.

The Medan City Government previously imposed a disaster emergency response status starting from 27 November 2025 to 11 December 2025.
