Ahead Of Christmas, Sorong Police Collaborates With 23 Tribal Heads To Maintain City Security

SORONG Sorong City Police collaborated with 23 tribal chiefs to strengthen collaboration in maintaining security and public order (kamtibmas) ahead of the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) celebrations.

Kapolresta Sorong Kota, Kombes Amry Siahaan mengatakan, pertemuan tersebut digelar untuk mempererat silaturahmi sekaligus memperkuat sinergi antara kepolisian dan tokoh adat dalam menjaga situasi tetap kondusif.

"I ask for the support of tribal chiefs to help create a peaceful and conducive atmosphere, ensure that Christmas worship and celebrations run smoothly," he said in Sorong, Antara, Wednesday, December 10.

The Police paradigm now places the service function above the security function. Therefore, his party hopes that the tribal chief can be an extension in conveying the kamtibmas message to residents, including inviting the public to abandon the habit of brokering that can disrupt public facilities.

As part of efforts to maintain security stability, the Sorong City Police have held a number of activities, ranging from face-to-face with the community, distributing basic necessities, building kamling posts, to facilitating positive activities for youth such as the provision of sports equipment and mini Soccer tournaments.

In addition, the Polresta also followed up on the aspirations of the community regarding controlling the circulation of illegal liquor (alcohol).

"We have secured the perpetrators of illegal alcohol sales around 20 crime scenes with evidence of almost one ton over the past two months," Amry said.

According to him, supervision of the entry of alcohol from outside the region was carried out together with the Sorong Police and the Southwest Papua Police. Meanwhile, for the control of authorized liquor stores, coordination across agencies is needed.

The head of the South West Papua Indigenous Forum, Buce Ijie, appreciated the steps taken by the Police in maintaining regional conduciveness. He ensured that tribal chiefs were committed to fully supporting the efforts of the police.

During the meeting, Buce also submitted a number of inputs, including requests for increased security ahead of Christmas 2025, issuing circulars to limit the sale of alcohol during December, as well as strengthening a humanist approach to every handling of community problems.

The Head of Biak Hamlet, Hengky Korwa, also expressed his full support for the work program of the Sorong City Police. He hopes that the synergy between tribal chiefs and the police will be maintained.

"We are ready to work together to maintain security, including going directly to the field if necessary. We also again ask for control of liquor sales places ahead of Christmas," he said.
