Winds Trigger Extreme Weather, BMKG Urges North Maluku Residents To Be Alert

TERNATE - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Sultan Baabullah Ternate appealed to the people of North Maluku to increase awareness of the potential for extreme weather in the next few days.

BMKG forecaster Sultan Baabullah Ternate Fahmi Bachdar said people who live or are active in landslide-prone areas, riverbanks, as well as fishermen and small ship operators need to be more careful.

"In addition, to increase awareness of the potential for high intensity rain, strong winds, and dangerous sea waves," he said in Ternate, Antara, Wednesday, December 10.

BMKG urges the public and shipping actors to regularly monitor weather information updates through the official nowcasting.bmkg.go.id website, BMKG social media channels, as well as warnings conveyed through local communication devices.

The Sultan Baabullah Ternate Class I Meteorological Station has issued an early warning for the period 11'13 December 2025.

The BMKG noted that wind bends and air mass gatherings in the North Maluku region could increase the formation of rain clouds, including moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

A number of water areas are also expected to experience high waves with a potential of up to 2 meters at several points.

For December 11, 2025, areas have the potential to be affected by extreme weather including North Halmahera Regency (North LOda, Galela, Tobelo, Kao), Morotai Regency, West Halmahera Regency (Loloda, Ibu, Jailolo, Sahu), Ternate City (Ternate, Batang Dua, Hiri, Moti), Tidore Islands City (Tidore, Soadara, Oba), East Halmahera Regency (Wasile), Central Halmahera, South Halmahera (Gane, Obi), Taliabu Regency, and Sula Islands (Sulabesi and Mangoli).

Sementara itu pada 12 Desember 2025, cuaca ekstrem diperkirakan terjadi di Kabupaten Halmahera Selatan (Bacan, Kasiruta, Makean, Kayoa, Obi), Kabupaten Morotai, Kabupaten Halmahera Utara (Loloda Utara, Galela), Kabupaten Halmahera Barat (Loloda, Ibu, Jailolo, Sahu), Kabupaten Halmahera Timur (Wasile, Maba), Halmahera Tengah (Weda Patani), Kota Ternate (Batang Dua, Hiri, Moti), Kota Tidore Kepulauan, serta Kabupaten Taliabu (Taliabu Barat dan Taliabu Selatan).
