Central Java Deputy Governor: Demak Sea Embankment Development Proposal Received By Authority

Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen said the proposed construction of a sea wall building with a hybrid sea wall scheme on the coast of Demak Regency had been received by the North Coast Management Authority (Pantura) of Java.

"For hybrid sea wall, from Demak Regency to Jepara," said Gus Yasin, his nickname, during a meeting with the Pantura Jawa Management Authority Agency at the Central Java Governor's office complex in Semarang, Tuesday, December 9.

For technical readiness, the Central Java Provincial Government involves district/city governments because the Javanese Pantura Authority Agency will also form teams in the field in collaboration with local governments.

Deputy Chairman II of the Javanese Pantura Management Authority, Suhajar Diantoro, said the central government prioritized the construction of the Pantura Java sea embankment in Jakarta Bay and Semarang Bay.

Semarang Bay includes waters, meaning in Kendal Regency, Semarang City, and parts of Demak Regency.

"That's the first priority. And if we look at it, it turns out that in several other places, including for example some (regencies) of Batang, Tegal, and Pekalongan, it is also extraordinary (the impact of the tidal wave)," he said.

He said the construction of the overall sea embankment in Pantura Java took 20-30 years, while the acceleration of development priorities in Jakarta and Semarang was estimated to take eight years.

The Deputy Governor of Central Java wants the diversity of methods in the construction of giant sea wall, namely that some are built using total concrete, but some are only by strengthening the mangrove forest ecosystem.

"Yang mangrovenya masih kuat, maka akan dilakukan penguatan terhadap mangrovenya. Pada bagian- bagian tertentu, mungkin cukup (penguatan) embankment pantai," katanya.

Currently, the Javanese Pantura Management Authority together with the Naval Hydro-Oceanography Center are conducting a survey of batimetry and soil investigations (land investigations) in Semarang Bay and Jakarta.

"The survey in Semarang Bay has reached more than 70 percent," he said.

After the survey is complete, the consultant's work is planned to start in January 2026, and it is estimated that the consultant's work will run for approximately six months to design, while calculating the social impacts.

It is estimated that the documents will be complete in July 2026, then a meeting will be held with the president and minister, while if approved, it is hoped that the initial inauguration of the construction of the sea embankment will be carried out in September 2026.
