SERANG - The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Banten Police arrested a man with the initials AN (29) who is suspected of premeditated murder of an online transportation driver MS (23).

This case is considered a crime that was planned by the perpetrator two days before the incident with the aim of controlling the victim's car and belongings.

Dirreskrimum Polda Banten Kombes Dian Setyawan in Serang City, Tuesday, said the perpetrator ordered the victim's service using a fake account, before executing the victim when the car stopped in front of the UIN campus Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten.

"The perpetrator has prepared a wire wrapped in duct tape and stored in a paper bag to stabilize the victim to death," he said.

After confirming that the victim was dead, the perpetrator moved MS's body to the passenger seat, then took the car to a deserted location to dispose of the victim's body.

"The perpetrator dumped the victim in the Pabuaran area, then fled with the victim's car and belongings," said Dian.

MS's body was found on Sunday, November 30, under the Cimake Bridge, Serang. The identity of the victim is known through the Inafis team's fingerprint examination.

"The autopsy showed the victim died as a result of a strong snare on the neck and a blunt object impact on the head," he added.

The perpetrator was finally arrested on Saturday, December 6, in the city of Serang along with a number of evidences, including the victim's Toyota Calya, cell phones, wallets, and clothes used at the time of the incident. The police also confiscated the wires and cables used to kill the victim.

Dian said the motive for the perpetrator was purely an economic crime. "The motive is to control goods and vehicles. The mode is to order as a passenger and then look for opportunities to stabilize the victim," he said.

The police charged the perpetrator with Article 340 of the Criminal Code and Article 365 of the Criminal Code concerning premeditated murder and violent theft with a life sentence of 20 years in prison, or the death penalty.

He emphasized that the Banten Police will continue to intensify the prosecution of street crimes targeting online transportation workers. "We urge all online taxi drivers to be vigilant, especially when receiving suspicious orders at night," he said.
