JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government revealed that the coastal safety embankment in Jakarta has now suffered a leak in 6 areas. The mitigation embankments are located in Muara Angke, Muara Baru, Sunda Kelapa, Green Bay Pluit, RE Martadinata, Ancol, and Marunda Pulo.

The embankments began to be built in 2014, as the first step in dealing with tidal or coastal flooding in Jakarta, while waiting for the construction process of the giant sea wall or Giant Sea Wall.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Agency, Ika Agustin Ningrum, explained that although the embankment had built and detained sea water from entering the mainland, he admitted that the maintenance aspect was still not optimal.

"Currently, with these leaks, is the question of the structure not working? The structure is functioning. It's quite structural. But if the question needs maintenance, yes," said Ika in Muara Baru, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Monday, December 8.

Some time ago, the safety embankment in Muara Baru was leaked and became the spotlight of netizens on social media. Nizam Zachman's embankment is now under the management and responsibility of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo).

Since the beginning of the leak on Thursday, December 4, officers from the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service have carried out temporary countermeasures, namely by paving the gap in the leaking embankment with sandbags.

Currently, further repairs are starting to run by carrying out a grouting process or filling the gap or cracks in the concrete structure with a mixture of special ingredients.

"Currently we are playing maintenance in the downstream segment along 400 meters first. Why at Nizam Zachman first? Because this is the one directly with the sea that is more hit by the waves. Using the roasting method, short grid," explained Ika.

"We first dig 3 meters long using K500 concrete, cast, injected from the inside. So the term is patched. Not plugging with cement, but roasting using K500. Now, these are the processes that are being encouraged," he continued.
