LONDON A number of visitors at the Tower of London were shocked after demonstrators from the Take Back Power activist group threw food in the form of a custard and apple crunch, to a storefront displaying the British Crown Jewels heirloom on Saturday, December 6.

The action, which is claimed to be a protest against inequality and injustice in the United Kingdom, has caused part of one of London's most popular tourist attractions to be temporarily closed.

Reporting from The Guardian, Saturday, December 6, the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) confirmed that four people had been arrested in connection with the crime vandalism incident at the location. Police were summoned at around 09.48 local time after reports of vandalism in a storefront containing Imperial State Crown.

Footage shared by the group showed one of the demonstrators slamming a large apple crunch into the protective glass, while the other repeatedly poured a bright yellow custard. After carrying out the action, they took off their jacket, showing a t-shirt that read "Take Back Power" before shouting, "Democracy has been destroyed!" (democracy has collapsed).

The Take Back Power group defines itself as a non-violent civil resistance group stating that the purpose of this action is to demand that the British government establish a permanent People's Assembly (House of the People) with the authority to "teach extreme wealth and improve Britain."

In a statement, one of the activists, Zahra Ali, a 19-year-old student from London, said: "Our country is collapsing in front of our eyes. We have homeless people dying on the streets that King Charles is going through on his way to theappropriation, while there are more empty houses than homeless people in this country. It's time for ultra-rich people to pay a fair share."

Although preliminary reports indicated the entire area was closed, the Metropolitan Police later clarified that only Jewel House, where the Royal Crown is exhibited, was temporarily closed to visitors for investigation and cleaning. The four suspects have been taken into custody on suspicion of criminal destruction.
