Puan Regarding The Illegal Logging Special Committee And Revision Of The Forestry Law: Discussed After The Sumatra Disaster Was Handled

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, responded to the discourse of the Illegal Logging Special Committee and the plan to revise the Forestry Law in the aftermath of the flash floods and landslides that hit Sumatra.

According to him, this will be discussed later after the disaster is handled.

"Yes, after yesterday Commission IV did, summoned the Ministry of Forestry, we will evaluate anything, how, and when it will be carried out. Of course, after this disaster has been handled," said Puan to reporters, Friday, December 5.

Puan said that all parties, both the DPR and the government, are still focusing on handling disaster victims.

Although Commission IV of the DPR has summoned the Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni to ask for an explanation regarding the alleged illegal logging that was the cause of the Sumatra floods, Puan assesses that the results of the DPR's evaluation need to be discussed carefully.

The first thing to focus on is dealing with disaster management first. Although yesterday Commission IV summoned the Minister of Forestry to be able to conduct evaluations. However, we will hear this again and we will follow up after the handling of this disaster is complete," he explained.

Meanwhile, regarding the proposal of the Illegal logging Special Committee, Puan stated the same thing.

"Later, after this disaster is resolved, we will talk about the special committee," he concluded.
