KEPRI - A young man who works as a motorcycle taxi driver in Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands continues to search for passengers despite the positive COVID-19.

This is told by the Chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Faction of Struggle (PDIP) dprd Kepri Lis Darmansyah. The young man continues to work to support his wife and children.

"The motorcycle taxi driver is positive of COVID-19. Three members of his family also contracted the virus. They had time to do self-isolation, but not strong because they did not have the money to meet their daily needs. Finally, the motorcycle taxi driver continues to work looking for passengers," lis said in Tanjungpinang reported from Antara, Tuesday, May 25.

Lis refuses to reveal the identity of the motorcycle taxi driver. However, he himself had already communicated and seen his family.

Lis said the motorcycle taxi driver as one example that people who contracted COVID-19, and did self-isolation can not fully be in his home until cured.

One of the causes is the economic needs of the family that must be met. Lis urged the local government to intervene to provide food assistance to affected communities.

"Supposedly, gotong-royong, help each other. However, the government must ensure that everyone infected with COVID-19 recovers immediately, and the needs of their families are guaranteed, especially for the underprivileged," he said.

He also reminded local governments to not only narrate, but also action. Coordination with provincial governments with districts and cities must also be effective and consistent in dealing with COVID-19, which is currently soaring.

"We ask that the implementation of COVID-19 handling in Kepri be evaluated for improvement. Do not let the negligence of the local government, the community is harmed," he said.

The Task Force on Handling COVID-19 in Riau Islands Province recorded the number of COVID-19 patients in the region increased by 247 people to 14,904 people.

Chairman of the Daily Task Force on Handling COVID-19 Kepri Tengku Said Arif Fadillah, in Tanjungpinang, Monday, said the addition of new patients COVID-19 in the region occurred in Batam 51 people, Tanjungpinang 65 people, Karimun 10 people, Bintan 27 people, Lingga 43 people and Anambas Islands 51 people.

The total number of COVID-19 patients since March 2020 until now in Batam as many as 8,386 people, Tanjungpinang 3,028 people, Bintan 1,306 people, Karimun 974 people, Lingga 280 people, Natuna 260 people, and Anambas 670 people.

The number of patients recovering from COVID-19 increased by 154 people today so that the total number of 12,476 people, spread in Batam 45 people, Bintan 11 people, Karimun 15 people, Anambas 55 people and Lingga 28 people.

The total number of patients cured since the COVID-19 pandemic in Batam was 7,522 people, Tanjungpinang 2,488 people, Bintan 1,144 people, Karimun 666 people, Lingga 135 people, Natuna 110 people, and Anambas 411 people.

The number of patients who died increased by seven people to 326 people. The seven patients who died were two tanjungpinang residents, one Bintan, one Lingga, one Karimun, and two Anambas.

The total number of patients who died due to COVID-19 in Batam was 177 people, Tanjungpinang 70 people, Bintan 29 people, Karimun 29 people, Lingga seven people, Natuna three people, and Anambas 11 people.

While the number of active cases in Kepri reached 2,102 people, spread in Batam 687 people, Tanjungpinang 470 people, Bintan 133 people, Karimun 279 people, Lingga 138 people, Natuna 147 people, and Anambas 248 people.*
