Attending The Inauguration Of The Central Java PWI Management, Mayor Agustina Calls The Government's Strategic Partner Media

SemarANG - Mayor of Semarang, Agustina Wilujeng emphasized that the media is a strategic partner for the government. According to him, the existence of the media is not only a matter of disseminating information, but also about building a healthy public space through social control, education, and literacy strengthening. This was conveyed by the mayor when attending the inauguration of the chairman and administrator of the Central Java Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at Wisma Peace, Semarang on Tuesday (2/12).

Therefore, he said that his presence at the inauguration of PWI Central Java Province was a form of appreciation for the partnership that had been built so far.

The inauguration of the chairman and administrator of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of Central Java Province for the period 2025'30 marks the start of a new chapter of the oldest professional journalist organization in Indonesia, as well as strengthening a credible and integrity press ecosystem in Central Java.

On that occasion, Agustina also emphasized that journalistic works have the ability to raise simple issues into meaningful information for the public.

"Whatever is done by the government or the public, without media reports will not be seen. In the hands of journalists, small events can have a big meaning because they are conveyed properly," he said.

"Wartawan itu mitra pemerintah, mitra masyarakat, mitra semua organisasi. Maka hadir di pelantikan PWI ini bukan hanya kewajiban, tapi sesuatu yang menyenangkan," tutur Agustina.

His party also congratulated the elected chairman of PWI Central Java, Setiawan Hendra Kelana, who he knew as a dedicated journalist from a young age.

"I know that Mas Iwan is a very dedicated journalist. I am sure that the Central Java PWI in his hands will accelerate," he added.

Regarding the discourse on establishing a city-level PWI, Agustina opened a communication space and collaboration. The Semarang City Government is ready to provide support according to organizational needs.

"If it really has to be made by PWI at the city level, go ahead. We will endorse what we can help, we will do it," he said.

Agustina also quoted Bung Karno's views on the role of journalists in advancing civilization. "Bung Karno said, what enlightens the world is two: the sun and journalists. That's a reference that always reminds us of how important the role of the press is," he said.

The inauguration of the 2025-2030 PWI management is expected to be a momentum to strengthen the professionalism and integrity of journalists in the midst of disinformation challenges, as well as strengthen the synergy between the media and local governments in providing clear, accurate, and beneficial information to the community.
