JAKARTA - Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board Yahya Cholil Staquf again stated that he could only be dismissed through the congress or the usual large congress.

"Regarding whether it's true that I'm guilty or not, please check, I'm open to being examined. But it's impossible for me to accept being accused without being given the opportunity to make clarifications, whatever allegations are there please prove," Staquf said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 3.

Gus Yahya, as he is usually called, invites all parties to carry out the process in accordance with the organizational order.

"Because the mandater can only change his position through the congress, let's hold a congress," he added.

He alluded to Article 74 of the NU Household Budget (ART) requiring serious violations of the Articles of Association and Household Budget. Related to this, he highlighted the need for proof through the congress.

Gus Yahya also explained that the sharia daily meeting was only authorized to discuss matters of celebration or sharia institutions. Sharia daily meetings are not allowed to fire anyone at all levels.

Therefore, he considered the decision of the sharia daily meeting which exceeded his authority to be unacceptable.

Previously, the conflict began when the results of the Syuriah Daily Risalah asked PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf to resign from his position and be given a deadline of 3x24 hours.

Not long after, a Circular (SE) Number 4785/PB.02 A.II.10.01/99/11/2025 appeared stating that Yahya Cholil Staquf was no longer the General Chair of PBNU as a follow-up to Risalah HarianSyuriah.

The SE was signed by Deputy Rais Aam PBNU Afifuddin Muhajir and Khatib PBNU Ahmad Tajul Mafakir. In the letter, it was stated that Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya was no longer the General Chair of PBNU as of November 26, 2025.
