The Indonesian Navy deployed KRI Pari-849 to capture a ship suspected of transporting illegal nickel ore in Southeast Sulawesi waters on Thursday.

The arrests began when KRI Pari-849 received intelligence information regarding the illegal nickel ore delivery activity from the Konawe area on Wednesday, November 26.

"Based on this information, KRI Pari-849 will immediately carry out isolation efforts around the waters of Southeast Sulawesi as a preventive measure," said Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service, First Admiral of the TNI Tunggul when confirmed in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Friday, November 27.

While blocking and monitoring the sea, officers detected a tugboat and barge sailing from Jetty Cinta Jaya to PT GPS Obo Jetty, South Halmahera. The ship was identified as TB Lintas Samudera 127 which pulled the Cross Samudera 99 barge.

The KRI Pari-849 Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team then inspected the ship, including luggage and administrative completeness.

From the initial examination, officers found a number of alleged violations related to shipping administration and legal content of nickel ore.

"The identity of the TB Cross Samudera 127 ship with an Indonesian flag, carrying 10 crew members, with a nickel ore load of 10,005.89 wet metric tons on the Cross Samudera 99 barge. The shipping route from Jetty Cinta Jaya to PT GPS Obo Jetty, South Halmahera," said Tunggul.

The ship was then escorted to the Kendari Navy Base (Lanal) for further inspection. Tunggul emphasized that this step is part of the Navy's commitment to ensure Indonesia's natural wealth is managed and legally utilized.

"The Indonesian Navy will continue to tighten supervision so that the country's natural resources do not fall into the hands of irresponsible parties," he said.
