PPKM Micro Extended Until June 14, Coverage Is Now In All Provinces

JAKARTA - The government extended the implementation of restrictions on micro-scale community activities (PPKM) from June 1 to 14, 2021.

Chairman of the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KCP-PEN) Airlangga Hartato said the scope of micro PPKM extension was expanded to all provinces. Previously, there were 30 provinces that implemented micro PPKM.

"For ppkm micro next stage 1 to 14 June, then Gorontalo, Maluku, North Maluku included, plus West Sulawesi Province," said Airlangga in the Presidential Secretarial Youtube show, Monday, May 24.

Airlangga said, currently active cases at the provincial level of 10 provinces have increased. Karsnanya, micro PPKM extension is done in anticipation of a spike in cases due to Eid holidays this year.

COVID-19 cases are increasing in Aceh, North Sumatra, Kepri, DKI Jakarta, NTB, North Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku and North Maluku. Then, the new provinces will implement PPKM in Gorontalo, Maluku, and North Maluku also experienced an increase in active cases.

The largest proportion of active cases of COVID-19 nationwide is in Java Island, which is 56.4 percent. Then, the island of Sumatra by 21.3 percent. The largest province of active cases is in West Java.

"What needs to be considered is in the next 4 to 5 weeks cycle, because for example during the Christmas holidays the highest case was up on February 5," said Airlangga.

"So, we have to monitor the next 4 to 5 weeks. Although in one week we also see some cases there is an increase but still in a much smaller level than after Eid al-Fitr last year," he added.
