The Medan District Attorney, North Sumatra, has detained the Head of the Medan City Transportation Service with the initials ES as a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the implementation of the Medan Fashion Festival (MFF) in 2024.

"Today, the Medan Kejari Pidsus investigators detained the suspect ES at the Tanjung Gusta Medan Detention Center," said Head of Intelligence at the Medan Kejari Dapot Dariarma as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 25.

Dapot said the suspect ES was detained for the next 20 days starting today for investigation purposes in accordance with Article 21 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code for fear of running away, damaging or eliminating evidence, and repeating criminal acts.

The suspect ES previously served as Secretary of the Medan City SME and Perindag Cooperative Service who also served as Commitment Making Officer (PPK) at MFF activities in 2024.

"The matter was twice absent from the summons of investigators in their capacity as suspects for reasons of illness and finally attending today's examination," said Dapot.

In this case, the Medan Kejari Pidsus investigators found irregularities in budget management procedures, including the appointment of implementers without the technical qualification process and unofficial payments to subvendors.

"The value of the activity contract reached Rp4.85 billion with state losses estimated at Rp1.132 billion," he said.

Apart from ES, the prosecutor's office has also detained two other suspects in the alleged MFF corruption case, namely BIN as Head of the Medan City SME Cooperative Service and MH as Director of CV Global Mandiri.

"The suspects were charged with Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code," explained Dapot.
