Child Abuse To Death, Central Java Police Member Brigadier Ade Sentenced To 13 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The Semarang District Court (PN) sentenced a member of the Central Java Regional Police (Central Java) Brigadier Ade Kurniawan to 13 years in prison in the case of abuse that killed a two-month-old baby.

The verdict read by Chief Justice Hasanur Rachman Syah Arif during a trial at the Semarang District Court, Monday, November 24, was lighter than the prosecutor's demand for 14 years.

In addition to corporal punishment, the judge imposed a fine of Rp. 200 million which if not paid, would be replaced with imprisonment for 4 months.

"To declare the defendant guilty of violating Article 80 paragraphs 3 and 4 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection," he said, confiscated by Antara.

The defendant is considered proven to have committed acts of violence against children that resulted in death, which was committed by his parents.

The crime began when the defendant became acquainted with the victim's mother, whose initials were DGT in 2023.

Since dating, the defendant and the victim's mother have lived together in a rented house located in Palebon, Semarang City.

The victim's mother who was dating the defendant finally became pregnant and gave birth to a baby with the initials NA in January 2025.

Defendant Ade refused to take responsibility and was only willing to give money to take care of NA's baby.

The defendant, who felt hurt because of the demands of the victim's mother, first abused a NA baby in a rented house in March 2025, the defendant strangled the back of the victim until he finally cried.

Ade Kurniawan again abused the victim by pressing the victim's forehead while in the car at the Peterongan Market parking lot, Semarang City.

The unconscious victim was taken to the Roemani Hospital in Semarang, but was finally declared dead.

The police's exhumation stated that the death of the victim was caused by blunt force to the head which resulted in a brain hemorrhage.

In their consideration, the judge's actions resulted in the death of a child.

"The victim is the defendant's biological son from an extramarital relationship with witness Dina Julia Pratami," he said.

In his decision, the judge also granted the prosecutor's request that the defendant pay a restitution of Rp74.7 million to the victim's mother.

Regarding this decision, the judge gave the defendant and public prosecutor the opportunity to take further legal action.
