Attorney Confirms Nadiem Makarim Was Not Involved In Google Cloud Procurement

JAKARTA - Nadiem Makarim's attorney, Dodi S. Abdulkadir, said that his client was not involved in the procurement of Google Cloud at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

"In a statement to KPK investigators, Pak Nadiem has explained that the use of Google Cloud is the realm of operational implementation at the Ministry of Education and Culture, in this case it is the Center for Data and Information Technology (Pusdatin), so there was no involvement of Mr. Nadiem as Minister of Education and Culture at that time," said Dodi in Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, November 22.

Dodi also said that until now, the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) had not received any further news regarding the follow-up investigation of this case that had been carried out by the KPK.

"Of course he can understand if the KPK does not continue with this Google Cloud because there is no unlawful act committed by him because the decision to use Google Cloud is made at the operational level, not at the ministerial level," he said.

Nadiem, he said, hoped to receive fair legal treatment.

"Pak Nadiem hopes that the implementation of equality and objectivity by the KPK in this case will ensure that justice is upheld in a straight manner," he said.

Previously, the KPK revealed that former Minister of Education and Technology Nadiem Makarim was one of the potential suspects in the alleged corruption case related to the procurement of Google Cloud at the Ministry of Education and Culture, before the handling of the case was decided to be handed over to the Attorney General's Office.

"Yes, the same is NM," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta, Thursday (20/11).

Asep conveyed this to explain further the statement by the Chairman of the KPK Setyo Budiyanto on November 18, 2025, namely that the potential suspect in the Google Cloud case is the same as the suspect in the alleged corruption case of the education digitization program at the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2019 2022 related to the procurement of Chromebooks handled by the Attorney General's Office.

He further said that another name that became a potential suspect for Google Cloud by the KPK was the former Special Staff of Nadiem Makarim, namely Jurist Tan (JT).

However, he said there were potential suspects who were different from cases that had been handled by the AGO. "So, something is different, but overall it's the same," he said.
