Workers Demand Jakarta UMP 2026 To Be IDR 6 Million, PKS: Doesn't It Disturb The Economy?

JAKARTA - Member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the PKS faction, M. Taufik Zoelkifli, assessed that workers' demands that the DKI Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) be increased to Rp6 million in 2026 need to be studied more deeply

Taufik said that the workers' proposals, which are usually far above the regular increase, have indeed emerged from the increasing needs of life. However, the DKI Provincial Government still has to calculate its impact on economic stability and business continuity.

He reminded that the surge in HR costs could trigger unwanted situations, ranging from labor efficiency to the risk of closing companies due to disruption of financial conditions.

"If the UMP rises too high, does it not have the potential to disrupt the economy? For example, the company is closed or unable to survive," Taufik told reporters, Friday, November 21.

The increase in wages is too high, according to Taufik, has the potential to cause new pressure for the business world. Therefore, he emphasized the need for transparency from business actors in conveying their ability to meet wage increases.

"So we have to ask how entrepreneurs are prepared to spend large HR costs. We also ask entrepreneurs to be honest whether it is true that the increase in HR costs will shake up the company or not," said Taufik.

On the other hand, Taufik understands the pressure of workers who assess the cost of living in Jakarta continues to rise. Thus, Taufik emphasized that the DKI Provincial Government must be able to ensure that decisions do not cause domino effects that harm the entire economic ecosystem.

"The UMP cannot be seen only from the needs of workers, although the cost of living increases. If the UMP is raised completely according to the needs of the workers, we must also ensure that the economy continues and the company can still live with the increased cost of human resources," he said.

On Monday, November 17, a number of workers who are members of the Federation of Workers Unions in Jakarta held a demonstration in front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall.

Chairman of DPD FSP LEM DKI Jakarta Yusuf Suprapto demanded that DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung set the DKI Jakarta UMP in 2025 of IDR 6 million.

"We are DKI Jakarta workers, DKI Jakarta workers, who will demand a UMP of 6 million rupiah. That the 6 million figure is a decent figure and a figure that can meet the needs of a decent living for workers in DKI Jakarta," explained Yusuf.

In comparison, the DKI Jakarta UMP this year is in the range of Rp5.39 million. If the demand for workers is granted to Rp6 million, there will be an increase of around Rp600 thousand, or approximately 10 percent of the current minimum wage.

In addition, workers also demand a determination of the provincial sectoral minimum wage (UMSP) with a minimum value of 5 percent above the UMP which has been increased in 2026.

"Don't let it touch what is called the existing sectoral wage last year and then want to be eliminated. We ask that it be returned, as in the previous existing ministerial regulations, 5 percent above the provincial minimum wage in DKI Jakarta," he concluded.
