JAKARTA - The government of Indramayu Regency, West Java, is repairing the statue of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno who was damaged, after allegedly being hit by an event tent in the Indramayu Square area in early November 2025.
Indramayu Regent Lucky Hakim said the statue had been temporarily removed from the square area for the correction process.
He said the damage to the statue occurred when the Indramayu Square was used for the inauguration of Government Employees with a Temporary Work Agreement (PPPK).
According to him, bad weather and strong winds that hit the area allegedly caused the tent to collapse and the statue was covered with cloth, as a temporary measure before the repair process was carried out.
"I received a report that a statue (Soekarno) was damaged because it was hit by a tent. There was a huge wind. For quick treatment, it was closed first, because it was not good," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 20.
Lucky said the neck of the statue was the most badly damaged, making it look tilted.
His party then decided to lower the statue so that the repair process could be carried out optimally. In fact, the statue of Mohammad Hatta standing next to him was also taken down.
This statue was founded in 2023, one package with the renovation of the square. It was made for two years. Yesterday, because it was damaged we brought down the two statues," he said.
Meanwhile, Acting Head of Housing and Settlement Division, Diskimrum Indramayu Krisdiantoro, conveyed that the technical team had previously reviewed the condition of the statue.
He ensured that repairs were carried out thoroughly, to ensure the structure of the two statues was sturdy and safe again.
"We make sure the repairs are maximized. Therefore, we also find out first the artist who made it (the statue)," he said.
Previously, damage to the statue had gone viral since the last few days, because videos showing the condition of the statue had spread widely on social media, especially Instagram.
