The West Java Regional Police confirmed that Rizki Nurfadilah, a young man from Bandung Regency, was not a victim of a criminal act of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in Cambodia.
The Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Kombes Hendra Rochmawan, revealed this based on an official report from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) at Phnom Penh, after previously Rizki was said to be a victim of TIP in Cambodia.
"The person concerned has been secured at the Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia and is currently in good condition. From the information we got from the Indonesian Embassy, Rizki is not a victim of TIP, and also not a case from TIP," said Hendra in Bandung, Thursday, November 20.
Hendra revealed that Rizki made a false confession to his family and the public to get sympathy.
In reality, he said, Rizki registered through social media and consciously accepted work as an operator of online fraud in Cambodia.
"He realized that he would be a scammer there with that much salary. He only suspected whether it was good or not, but talking to his parents was as a footballer at PSMS Medan," he said.
Hendra added that Rizki's repatriation process has a special mechanism because his status is not a victim of TIP. The West Java Regional Police will still help coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy.
"Because this is not a TIP victim, there is a separate clause that we returned to be assisted by the Indonesian Embassy, but later there will be costs. Later we will coordinate with the Kapolda. The Kapolda supports the person concerned for repatriation," he said.
He said that upon arrival in Indonesia, Rizki would be asked for information regarding the chronology of his departure.
"When he returns, we will ask for information starting from the process he left to the incident there," said Hendra.
Previously, the family revealed that Rizki had previously been lured into participating in the selection of the PSMS Medan football team by someone he knew through Facebook social media.
However, instead of being brought to Medan, he was actually taken to Cambodia and forced to work as an online fraud operator targeting Chinese citizens.
