Demo At City Hall, Workers Demand Jakarta UMP 2026 IDR 6 Million

JAKARTA - A number of workers from various trade union federations held a demonstration in front of the DKI Jakarta City Hall. They demanded that the government raise the Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) to IDR 6 million by 2026.

The amount of this UMP is considered more appropriate to meet the needs of living in the capital city next year.

"The UMP demand is IDR 6 million. The appropriate figure for a decent life," said the orator from the top of the command car on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 17.

The masses began to gather since 10:00 WIB. They carried the union flag, wore uniforms, and unfurled banners containing demands for wages. In the midst of the heat, the workers sang and danced to raise the spirit of the action participants.

The action of workers caused traffic flow in the Medan Merdeka area to stall. The police closed Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan from Jalan Ridwan Rais to the Horse Statue because the masses had filled the road.

In addition to the UMP of IDR 6 million, workers also urged the government to set a provincial sectoral minimum wage (UMSP) of at least 5 percent above the UMP. They assess that the current wage policy does not reflect the workload and competence of workers.

In comparison, the DKI Jakarta UMP this year is in the range of Rp5.39 million. If the demand for workers is granted to Rp6 million, there will be an increase of around Rp600 thousand, or approximately 10 percent of the current minimum wage.
