PeKANBARU - Riau Regional Disaster Management and Fire Service Agency (BPBD Damkar) extinguished forest and land fires (karhutla) in Rokan Hilir (Rohil) Regency and Dumai City because it was observed that the incident was still happening, in recent days.

The Head of the RiauM Damkar BPBD, Edy Afrizal, said that in Rohil Regency, a fire broke out in Pujud District, while in Dumai City, a fire broke out in Bukit Batrem, Dumai Timur District.

"Karhutla still exists. There are two locations, in Pujud, Rohil and Bukit Batrem sub-districts, Dumai," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, November 15.

Due to this condition, the Riau Damkar BPBD Team has also been dispatched to Dumai and Rohil to help extinguish the fire. In Rohil, the fire in Pujud yesterday was extinguished but the fire was alive again and is now cooling down.

He hopes that the hot conditions in Riau will soon pass. The reason is that according to estimates from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency this year, the heat is wet, but the conditions are dry.

"We just pray for the rainy season so that there will be no forest and land fires. Because if the conditions are hot like now the ground team can't afford to extinguish it if the air team doesn't help them by helicopter," he said.

Currently, the air bomber helicopters and patrols have all been pulled from the location.

In addition, plans to shift helicopters from South Sumatra to Riau are unlikely.

On Saturday, 33 hotspots were detected in Riau with the most in Bengkalis Regency 14 points, while on Sumatra Island 102 hotspots were detected with the most Jambi, 37 points.
