JAKARTA - Rockets were fired into settlements in the Syrian capital on Friday evening local time. This incident injured several people and caused damage.
It is not yet clear who was behind the rocket attack in the Mazzeh 86 area, west of Damascus.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense said two Katyusha rockets were launched from the outskirts of the city to settlements in the Mazzeh area and were looking for launch locations.
Journalist Associated Press at the scene said security forces had closed the area and prevented anyone from approaching the building affected by the attack. Journalists were then allowed in to record the damaged buildings.
State television reported a woman was injured in the explosion. Security forces are investigating. The Defense Ministry's statement later said "a number of people" were injured without providing further details.

During the 14-year Syrian civil war, the explosion and bombing in Damascus were not uncommon. However, since the fall of President Bashar Assad's rule in December 2024 by rebels who took power, peace has largely taken effect.
Rocket attacks in the capital city are very unusual.
However, there have been other attacks since Assad's fall, including a suicide bombing targeting a church on the outskirts of Damascus in June.
Israel has also launched hundreds of airstrikes across the country since the end of the 54-year-old Assad dynasty, especially those targeting Syrian army assets, although it has not attacked the capital in recent months.
