PANGKALPINANG - Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Brigadier General Eko Kristianto, revealed that the practice of buying and selling drugs at Sukapeace Market, South Bangka Regency, has been going on openly and almost without fear.

"The DEALER in this market sells methamphetamine on a stall equipped with scales, it's like selling fried beans," said Eko in Pangkalpinang, Antara, Tuesday, November 11.

He explained that the dealers opened drug sales stalls in the market area and transacted openly. This condition causes unrest among residents and market visitors.

"There are several points of drug sales, and this activity has been going on for quite a long time," he said.

According to Eko, one of the reasons the authorities had not carried out the raid earlier was because the network of dealers in the market was organized and had a sophisticated security system. The road to the location is equipped with a surveillance camera (CCTV) that monitors the movement of the authorities.

The issue is extraordinary. There is information on the presence of firearms, the existence of backing, and a layered surveillance system with CCTV. They can monitor every effort of the apparatus entering the market area," he said.

However, the situation was successfully penetrated. In the raid on Monday (10/11), the joint team of the BNNP Bangka Belitung Islands together with the Polda, Polres, and Polair managed to secure 11 people suspected of being dealers and users, as well as evidence of 19.30 grams of methamphetamine.

So far, the authorities have found it difficult to penetrate the area due to limited personnel. But thanks to the help of the joint team, we finally succeeded in dismantling the distribution of methamphetamine in this market," said Eko.

Ia menegaskan, BNN akan terus memperkuat operasi dan koordinasi lintas lembaga untuk memutus jaringan narkoba di Bangka Belitung, terutama yang telah menyusup hingga ke pusat-pusat aktivitas masyarakat seperti pasar tradisional.

He emphasized that BNN will continue to strengthen cross-institutional operations and coordination to cut off drug networks in Bangka Belitung, especially those that have infiltrated community activity centers such as traditional markets.
