Family Calls Suspected Perpetrator Of Explosives SMAN 72 Had Bringing Bags And Ngaku Wants To Go To MOI

JAKARTA - The family of the alleged perpetrator of the explosion at SMAN 72 Jakarta, revealed that the perpetrator had said goodbye with a big bag and admitted that he wanted to attend a meeting at the Mall of Indonesia (MOI), Kelapa Gading.

"That morning his father was waiting outside, but he had been down for a long time. As soon as he got down, he brought a big bag. I asked where he was going, he said there was a meeting at MOI," said one of the perpetrator's cousins, to reporters Saturday, November 8, 2025.

According to him, after saying goodbye, the family no longer communicated with the perpetrator until news of the explosion appeared at his afternoon school. Yati said, now the perpetrator is said to have regained consciousness after undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"Immediately the incident that afternoon. We just found out from the news," he said.

"He said he had regained consciousness, he was conscious. His head and hands were said to have been hit by fire," he continued.

He also said that the police from Polda Metro Jaya and Puslabfor Polri had searched their homes on Friday, November 7, 2025, for about 7 hours. From the search, the police found powder and boxes with guns in the suspect's room.

The police brought a gun and powder. I also saw a box with a gun, "he said.

He said the alleged perpetrator was known as a quiet teenager and rarely interacted with people around him. According to Yati, the family did not expect Fadel to be involved in the incident which caused dozens of victims to be injured at SMAN 72

"If you're at home, go straight to the room. There's not much story, if it's true that he's a suspect, I don't think it can get to that," he said.

Yati added that the alleged perpetrator had never told about personal problems or the possibility of having been a victim of bullying. He emphasized that if the perpetrator told the story, the perpetrator would not launch his reckless action.

"Never told anything. If he told me, we will definitely act. It won't get like this," he concluded.

Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that the alleged perpetrator of the explosion at SMAN 72 North Jakarta was one of the students at the school. Currently, the perpetrator is still undergoing intensive treatment in the ICU.

"The alleged perpetrator is one of the students at the high school. He is currently being treated in the ICU and requires special treatment," he said.

Furthermore, the explosion incident at SMAN 72 North Jakarta, precisely around the school mosque area during Friday prayers took place on November 7, 2025.

The explosion left dozens of people injured and treated at several hospitals in Jakarta.

"Yes, it was true that there was an explosion," said the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto.
