Indonesia Has Received Draft Draft Draft International Forces Resolution In Gaza, Foreign Minister Sugiono Affirms Clear Mandate

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of a clear and implicit mandate related to sending international troops to the Gaza Strip, Palestine, stating that Indonesia had received the initial draft of the troop delivery resolution draft.

"Yes (received), we also discussed the draft resolution yesterday. However, because it was only conveyed in yesterday's meeting, each country has their own opinions and thoughts which may be able to be stated as input," explained the Indonesian Foreign Minister when asked about the draft mandate of international troops circulated by the United States, in a statement at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, November 5.

"But once again the draft resolution draft is still in the standard of initial talks, very early, the draft zero distributed," he continued.

"Essentially, we hope that once again there will be one clear, clear, implicit and in the framework of peace keeping force, really in its function to maintain peace," said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

"That's what I think is the main topic discussed in the draft," he added.

The draft discussion referred to by Foreign Minister Sugiono was held at a meeting of countries which he later referred to as the New York Group in Istanbul, Turkey on November 3.

Earlier, Axios on Monday reported the US had sent a draft resolution to several members of the UN Security Council regarding the formation of international forces in Gaza.

The draft resolution will provide a two-year mandate to provide security by the end of 2027 with a possible extension.

A US official told Axios the International Stabilization Forces (ISF) would become a "law enforcement force and not a peacekeeping force."

The force will involve troops from several countries and formed through consultation with the UN Security Council.

According to the draft, the ISF will be tasked with securing Gaza's borders with Israel and Egypt, protecting civilians and humanitarian corridors, as well as training new Palestinian police forces that will become ISF partners.

The ISF will also stabilize the security environment of Gaza by ensuring a de-literization process of the Gaza Strip, to carrying out additional tasks needed to support the Gaza agreement, providing security in Gaza during the transition period.

The Draft also stressed that the formation of troops and operations would be carried out "in consultation and close cooperation with Egypt and Israel". This includes supervising and supporting a political Palestinian technocratic committee consisting of competent Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed things that were detailed, implementation and modality and what was certain was the official mandate from the United Nations which was implicitly discussed at the meeting.

"We all hope that there is a comprehensive plan that can be implemented," he said, adding that Indonesia might prepare new troops for missions in the Gaza Strip.

"According to what was said when the New York Gorup first met and then with talks between heads of state and the New York Declaration, everything must involve Palestine," he stressed.

It is known that the meeting in Istanbul led by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was also attended by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Pakistan.
