KPK Says IDR 1.6 Billion Is Not The First Time That Riau Governor Abdul Wahid Enjoys It

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revealed that the Rp1.6 billion money found in the Riau Governor Abdul Wahid and his friends' arrest operation was not the first handover.

KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said Abdul Wahid was suspected of having received some money before the OTT was carried out. The money found by investigators was in the form of rupiah denominations, US dollars, and Poundsterling.

"The money (Rp1.6 billion, red) is suspected to be part of some of the handovers to regional heads. This means that this arrest activity is part of several or several previous submissions," said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo to reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, November 4 evening.

"So, before this arrest activity, there were other handovers," he continued.

Budi has not yet detailed the receipt of the money. However, the initial assumption was related to the extortion of additional budget at the PUPR Service and there were thugs who had to be deposited.

"Regarding the addition of the budget at the PUPR Service, there is then a kind of japrem or thugs' rations of a certain percentage, so for regional heads the modes," he said.

The money, continued Budi, was found in Jakarta and Riau during the silent operation.

"For the money that was secured in rupiah, it was secured in Riau and for money in the form of dollars and pounds, it was secured in Jakarta in one of AW's houses," explained Budi.

Previously reported, the KPK held a hand arrest operation (OTT) in Riau Province on Monday, November 3. There were 10 people who were arrested at that time and there was Rp1 billion in rupiah denominations, US dollars to Poundsterling.

Later, nine people were taken by the KPK to undergo examination. Meanwhile, one person surrendered after a search was carried out by a team in the field.

However, it has not been detailed about the transaction that led to the silent operation or the suspect being named. Usually, the KPK will convey official information through a press conference.
