JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has assigned the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs to prepare substitution products for Thrifting business actors or selling used clothing, along with controlling the import of used clothes which are prohibited from trading regulations.

This was conveyed by the Minister of MSMEs Maman Abdurrahman, after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 4.

"The direction of the President is also to consider and think about substitution of products," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

He conveyed that the President gave directions not only to impose restrictions, but also to think about substitution of products using domestic textile goods for micro-enterprises who have been dependent on revenue from selling used clothing.

Maman explained that imports of used clothes were still prohibited according to regulations. However, the government also does not want the policy of taking action against Thrifting to make traders lose their livelihoods.

"When taking action against used goods that come in, the President's direction is to consider product substitution. Don't let them close, they don't have selling goods anymore," he said.

The Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs is tasked with preparing replacement products that can be sold by Thrifting business actors, by encouraging them to switch to local products made by MSMEs, including fashion and clothing from domestic producers.

Maman emphasized that many local products are of high quality and competitive in terms of prices, models, and fashion trends.

He gave an example of industry players in thestro in Bandung who were able to produce products with good quality and attractive designs.

Many domestic products are good. Later, Thrifting traders will be encouraged to sell our local products," said Maman, stressing that the government is ready to provide support so that MSMEs have wider market access.

Regarding the assumption that clothing Thrifting is cheaper than new local products, Maman denied. According to him, the results of meetings with associations and business actors show that the price of used clothing is also not always lower.

"There are also many used goods that are expensive, because there are no price regulations. The price is set depending on the merchant," he said.

He emphasized that this policy aims to maintain the sustainability of domestic production, as well as ensure that thrifting business actors can continue to carry out economic activities by switching to local products.

"Don't clash. On the one hand, we have to keep domestic producer MSMEs, but on the other hand, Thrifting traders must also be able to try. We will find the best solution," said Maman.
