BENGKULU - The Department of Education and Culture (Dikbud) of Bengkulu Province ensures that high school grade II students in Bengkulu Tengah Bengkulu District who commit hate speech insulting Palestine will not drop out of school.
The head of the Education and Culture Office (Dikbud) of Bengkulu Province Eri Yulian Hidayat insisted that he never revoked the student's right to continue his education after an eight-second video of blasphemy against Palestine that he uploaded to TikTok social media went viral.
"The child's right to an education is never revoked. He will still go to school, but because of the psychological burden of course he does not attend his home school anymore," Eri said in Bengkulu quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 20.
Meanwhile, the Head of SMA Negeri 1 Kabupaten Bengkulu Tengah Eka Saputra in a press conference denied that he issued a decision to dismiss the schoolgirls from the school as sanctions against hate speech insulting Palestine.
According to him, the decision to move school was the desire of both MS parents because they considered the psychological factors of their child if they had to stay in their home school.
Eka also ensured that MS would not drop out of school because it would help all the process of moving the grade II high school students to another school that she wanted.
"I never said a statement issuing the child. For now because of the COVID-19 ananda we return first to both parents to be built, because we are worried that the psychic is disturbed due to such a large news," he said.
In addition, Eka also stressed that if MS is still willing to continue her education at SMA Negeri 1, Bengkulu Tengah Regency, her party will still receive.
"Yes it's okay if he (MS) still wants to go to school here. But based on a letter of request from his parents he wanted to move school, due to psychic considerations. We'll help," he explained.
Eka also asked the whole community to no longer bring up this event so that the atmosphere is conducive and hope that all parties can take lessons.
Ms previously made a recording of hate speech against Palestinians who are currently in conflict with Israel. In an 8-second upload that has been deleted by TikTok, MS recorded herself voicing blasphemy against Palestine.
This student has offered an apology and stated that his actions were spontaneous as a form of fun with the aim of following the trend of social media and he did not expect it to be long-tailed.
