Before Falling Into Politics, Rob Jetten Aspired To Become An Athlete And Restaurant Entrepreneur

JAKARTA - The candidate for the Dutch Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, had shared his childhood story away from the world of politics he is now living.

In an interview with Radboud University, Jetten revealed that since childhood he had dreamed of becoming a professional running athlete. He even participated in the national selection to realize this dream.

"Since I was a child, I wanted to be a top athlete. At that time, and still now, I am a diligent runner. I ran at a reasonable level in my youth to and including the selection of Dutch youths," said Rob Jetten, quoted by VOI, Sunday, November 2.

Although in the end, he did not continue his career in athletics, Jetten admitted that he was still running regularly until now as a form of hobby and a healthy lifestyle.

Not only dreaming of becoming an athlete, but Jetten has also dreamed of becoming a catering entrepreneur. He even imagined having his own restaurant on the beach in a tropical country.

After a career in high-end sports, I want to dive into the catering industry. This business is already in my family. Ideally, I want to have my own restaurant on the beach, in a warm country," he said.

But fate said otherwise. Now, Jetten has the opportunity to make history as the first and youngest gay prime minister in the Netherlands.

The party he leads, D66 (Democrat 66), excels in the preliminary results of the national vote, defeating the Freedom Party (PVV) led bygert Wilders.

Although his life journey turned away from childhood goals, Jetten did not regret it. Instead, he felt proud of what he had achieved at this time.

"However, everything has changed. That doesn't mean I regret it. I now have the most beautiful job in the Netherlands," he concluded.
