JAKARTA - President Jokowi has trusted the name Sofyan Djalil to continue his duties since 2016. He has been re-appointed as Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Land Spatial Planning / National Planning Agency of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the period 2019-2024. The focus of the ministry for the next five years will be in the hands of academics born in Tanah Rencong, still prioritizing its previous mission: pursuing completeness of data accompanied by land mapping throughout Indonesia. It is targeted that later in 2025, all corners of land parcels in Indonesia will be registered and certified.

According to Sofyan Djalil, as of the end of 2016 there were still around 80 million land parcels that the ministry still had to complete, related to legalization and ownership rules. Before being transferred as Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Land Spatial Planning (ATRN) / National Planning Agency in 2016, Sofyan Djalil was the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of National Planning / Chair of the 2014-2019 Work Indonesia Cabinet National Planning Agency.

Who is Sofyan Djalil

His destiny was born as a native son of the Pereulak area, Sofyan Djalil came from a very humble family you could say. The father's job is only a barber, and his mother can only help as a village reciting teacher. Realizing that he was full of deficiencies, since he was little, he was used to selling duck eggs around the village for his own pocket money.

According to a relative's story, little Sofyan was never burdened with great pressure for the sake of a learning process from his parents, except for the Koran business. His childhood was fully enjoyed with free play, outside of school hours and his schedule selling eggs.

His interest in enjoying the atmosphere of education in the capital became more attractive when he learned that a National Islamic Student Conference would be held in 1976. Understandably, since he was young he had been active in organizations through the Indonesian Islamic Student Organization (PII). With limited supplies, plus ammunition with the blessing of his parents, he wandered alone, daring to set foot alone, for the sake of an education. Right at the age of 26 he was listed as a student at the University of Indonesia majoring in Business Law.

Realizing the limitations of his parents far away, while studying Sofyan, he does whatever it takes to survive. He was not even ashamed to work as a conductor nyambi public transport or religious teachers, to administrators of mosques in the Menteng Raya No. 58 Central Jakarta. Due to his daily life at the mosque, Sofyan is known by local residents as marbot , the mosque guard. When there was no more money left, Sofyan not only once sold the jeans that he was often subject to in college, for food and daily expenses.

After six years, the overseas children took the lecture process, at the age of 31 he successfully earned a law degree. Soon he began to actively work at the CPIS economic research institute, which concentrated more on public policy issues. His life slowly improved, he went to America for a master's degree in public policy, and a second master's degree in international economic relations.

He obtained his doctorate degree in the field of International Financial and Capital Market Law and Policy in 1993, at the same campus when he earned his Masters degree.

The Most 'Senior' Minister Figure

There have been jokes around the Palace since Sofyan Djalil's role was involved there: Whoever the President is, Sofyan the Minister. The track record of this former Marbot is among the most 'senior' ministers in the Indonesia Maju cabinet. Sofyan Djalil has recorded six involvement in the cabinet squad as assistant to the president. From 2004 to 2009 helping Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, continued in 2014 until now with President Jokowi.

He admitted that he was honest, there was a role behind the SBY-JK team during the 2004 presidential election contest. It is undeniable that although he as a timses has resulted in success, the quality and capability of Sofyan Djalil is considered capable of being in the cabinet. From 2004 to 2009, he had twice changed positions in the cabinet. The first was when he was appointed as Minister of Communication and Information, and the second was when he was moved to become Minister of State for BUMN. When he found out that in 2009 there was no name on the cabinet list for the second term of SBY, he did not think anything, unlike most politicians who expect the cabinet to share. For him, working with the figure of SBY or not, his contribution to the country can be in any form and there is a need to respect any decisions made by the leadership. He illustrated that his life philosophy is like water.

Sofyan Djalil's vacuum period began in 2009, before later re-entering in 2014 with Jokowi, he kept himself busy as an advisor to several multinational companies such as Axiata and Wellington Capital Indonesia. And his position as President Commissioner in several private companies in the financial, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, and so on sectors.

In the next five years his job has a big target from Jokowi, but this period he was accompanied by Surya Tjandra. The person with disabilities (disabled) whom Jokowi appointed as Deputy Minister to accompany this 'senior' minister was on duty.
