Warning For Maluku Residents: Extreme Weather Alert For A Week

JAKARTA - Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Pattimura Ambon Meteorological Station class II asked the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the week ahead on May 21-27, 2021.

"The weather in maluku region is influenced by Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) phenomenon is actively observed in quadrant 3 and is predicted to be active in quadrant 4 in the next week," said Head of Meteorological Station class II Pattimura, Kamari, in Ambon, reported antara, Thursday, May 20.

Based on climatological rain patterns, some areas in Maluku that enter the rainy season include Ambon City, Central Maluku Regency, West Seram, South Buru, and East Seram Regency. The easterly wind also still dominates the Maluku region.

Sea surface temperature conditions tend to warm up, especially in banda sea and Seram sea, supporting the availability of water vapor supply for the growth of rain clouds.

Locally, the growth of rain clouds (Cumulonimbus) that cause rain with moderate to heavy intensity accompanied by lightning, lightning and strong winds for a moment is still a potential occurrence.

BMKG urges residents to be aware of moderate to heavy intensity rain accompanied by lightning, lightning and strong winds potentially occurring in ambon city, South Buru regency, Central Maluku, West Seram, East Seram, Southeast Maluku and Aru Islands districts.

People are also urged to remain vigilant of the potential for extreme weather (heavy-very heavy rains that can be accompanied by lightning/ lightning, strong winds) during the rainy season, a sudden decrease in visibility.
