Polda Metro Checks Personnel Suspected Of Sexual Harassment

Polda Metro Jaya examined a number of personnel suspected of "catcalling" or sexual harassment in the form of verbal or non-verbality that occurred in public spaces.

"The person concerned has been given disciplinary action by the Provost of the Brimob Unit of the Polda Metro Jaya," said Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Brigadier General Ade Ary Syam Indradi as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 29.

Furthermore, the members were subjected to an examination process for disciplinary punishment by the Propam Division of the Polda Metro Jaya or the Provost Unit of the Brimob Unit of the Polda Metro Jaya.

Head of Propam Polda Metro Jaya KombesRadjo Alriadi Harahap said the member was under investigation.

"The investigation is still being investigated, later when it is finished, we will submit it to the Public Relations Bid of the Polda Metro Jaya," he said.

Previously circulated a viral video on Tiktok social media uploaded by the @jessynirmalaa account which claimed to have "catcalled" by a number of police officers.

"I've been walking every time I go home from the piles and I've been called a lot and I'm like yadahlah, but this is what makes me very upset. This is the police, he wears a uniform," said the account.

"They are crowded. But one person was teased. That's where I went berserk. So I just videoed it," said the woman in the video.

"Catcalling" is an act of verbal or non-verbal sexual harassment that usually occurs in public spaces. For example, jokes, screams such as "very beautiful", comments about the body or gaze that make a person feel uncomfortable.

Although most of the victims are women, anyone can actually experience it. "Catcalling" knows no age, gender or background and the impact can affect someone's sense of security in public spaces.
