Commission V Of The House Of Representatives Supports Presidential Regulation On Ojol: Ojol Partners On The Back Of Digital Age Mobility

JAKARTA - Member of Commission V DPR, Syafiuddin Asmoro supports President Prabowo Subianto's move to issue a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) to protect online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol).

According to him, the issuance of the Ojol Presidential Regulation is a concrete step for the government in responding to the concerns and demands of the welfare of driver-partners.

"Commission V welcomes President Prabowo's plan. This Presidential Decree is an important breakthrough to ensure driver-partners do not continue to be in a weak position in the midst of very tight online transportation industry competition," Syafyuddin told reporters, Tuesday, October 28.

He considered that the presence of this Presidential Decree was important to provide legal certainty and social protection for drivers who had been partners with application companies.

Syafyuddin said the regulation would also regulate more fairly the distribution of results, application cuts, and job safety standards in the field. In addition, according to him, ojol drivers also have a vital role in the national transportation system, especially as a liaison for the service sector and digital trade.

"Mitra ojol is the backbone of community mobility in the digital era. It is appropriate for them to get clear and fair protection," said the PKB legislator from the East Java XI electoral district.

Therefore, Syafyuddin emphasized that the state must be present to ensure a balanced justice and welfare between the applicator and the driver.

"The government must ensure that this Presidential Decree does not only regulate from the company's side, but also really side with the driver," he said.

Syafidin also encouraged the preparation of the Ojol Presidential Regulation to involve driver representatives and applicators. "So that the resulting policies are inclusive and can be implemented effectively in the field," he concluded.

As is known, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo would issue an Ojol Presidential Decree. The regulation will later involve the basis for providing tariffs, protection and welfare for drivers.

Prasetyo said the government would communicate with all parties including application service companies or applicators and ojol drivers in the drafting of the Presidential Regulation.
