Prabowo Firmly: Migrant Workers Must Get Better Protection And Opportunities!

JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin revealed that President Prabowo Subianto had given directions to focus on procedures for protecting Indonesian migrant workers.

Mukhtarudin revealed that the foreign exchange heroes are often victims of criminal acts abroad. According to him, the president has encouraged the Ministry of P2MI to provide quality protection for PMI.

"The President formed KP2MI with Presidential Regulation 139 of 2024 emphasizing two things. First, related to quality protection," said Mukhtarudin at the P2MI Ministry Office, Jakarta, Thursday, October 23.

He continued, the state needs to ensure that migrant workers get optimal social security. This is important because foreign exchange heroes are one of the largest contributors to state revenue from the labor sector.

PMI is dubbed a foreign exchange hero because of the permittance or money they sent to Indonesia is a significant source of state revenue. This strengthens the national economy.

In addition, continued Mukhtarudin, President Prabowo also emphasized that the government through the Ministry of P2MI can ensure the improvement of the skills of migrant workers. This is because Indonesian human resources (HR) must be able to compete competitively in the international work market.

Following up on this directive, the Ministry of P2MI is now taking accelerated steps to realize it. Secondly, KP2MI encourages the capacity of human resources for migrant workers, from low skills to middle skills," he concluded.
