Government Responsibility Of 6 Percent Of VAT Airline Tickets For The 2026 Christmas-New Year Holiday

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) officially provides an incentive policy in the form of a Value Added Tax (VAT) discount for purchasing plane tickets in order to welcome the Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays.

This policy is stated in the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 71 of 2025 concerning Value Added Tax on the Submission of Commercial Air Transport Services Scheduled Domestic Class Economics during the Christmas and New Year Holiday Period Borne by the Government for Fiscal Year 2026.

The regulation explains that the government will bear VAT of 6 percent of the replacement value for economic class domestic flight services.

Meanwhile, this replacement value includes basic tariffs (base-fare), additional fuel costs (fuel surcharge), as well as other costs paid by passengers and included in VAT objects.

"The replacement as referred to in paragraph (3) and paragraph (4) includes basic rates (base core), fuel surcharge, and other costs paid by service recipients who are VAT objects and are services provided by Air Transport Business Entities," quoted in the PMK. , Sunday, October 19.

In addition, this incentive applies to people who buy plane tickets from October 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026.

Meanwhile, the flight period that obtained the VAT facility borne by the government took place from 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026.

The remaining 5 percent of VAT from the replacement value remains the passenger burden as a user of flight services.
