JAKARTA - South Korean President (South Korea) Lee Jae Myung ordered emergency measures to remove online advertisements that deceived South Koreans with false job offers.

The broadcaster, media supervisory agency, and South Korean National Police Agency were ordered to immediately remove false advertisements offering high-paying jobs in Southeast Asian countries, said Secretary of the President for Public Relations Lee Kyu-yeon, Friday, October 17.

The order was issued because there were concerns that tightened surveillance in Cambodia could encourage criminal networks to move recruitment operations to other Southeast Asian countries, the secretary said.

Authorities will review websites where such ads are uploaded and share their findings with major portal operators.

"Consultative agencies consisting of a number of technology companies such as Kakao, Naver, and Google have been formed to launch an independent regulatory system to detect and remove suspicious uploads," said Lee Kyu-yeon.

The presidential office has promised to build an integrated response mechanism across institutions, which includes prevention, rescue of victims, and prosecution of perpetrators, to protect South Koreans from exploitation due to online fraud.
