Chromebook Case: Mrs. Nadiem Compares Her Son's Fate With Hasto And Tom Lembong

JAKARTA - The mother of former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim, Atika Algadri, mentioned the names of Tom Lembong and Hasto Kristiyanto after the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court (PN) rejected their son's pretrial application.

"Nadiem is only one example, because too many other people have been treated like this. There are Mr. Hasto, Tom Lembong, a lot. Just ask for help in prayer," said Atika after the trial at the South Jakarta District Court, Antara, Monday, October 13.

Atika believes her son is carrying out his duties as a minister with high integrity and moral principles.

"We know that our child is clean in carrying out all his work, his career is with moral principles, honesty, and firm kindness for the homeland and nation," he said.

He hopes that law enforcers will uphold truth and justice, not only for Nadiem but also for the sake of legal certainty in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Nadiem's father, Nono Anwar Makarim, expressed disappointment with the pretrial decision, but ensured that he would continue to fight for his son.

"Untung sekali bahwa Nadiem berdiri kuat hingga hari ini, dia bisa bertahan lama dan kuat sekali," ujar Nono.

Previously, single judge I Ketut Darpawan rejected the pretrial application submitted by Nadiem in the case of alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebooks at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) in the 2019-2022 period.

The Attorney General's Office has named Nadiem as a suspect in the case. In the indictment, Nadiem as the Minister of Education and Culture in 2020 is said to have planned the use of Google Chromebook products in the procurement of information and communication technology (ICT) tools, although procurement projects have not yet started.

Nadiem disangkakan melanggar Pasal 2 ayat (1) atau Pasal 3 juncto Pasal 18 Undang-Undang Nomor 31 Tahun 1999 sebagaimana diubah dengan UU Nomor 20 Tahun 2001 tentang Pemberantasan Tindak Pidana Korupsi jo. Pasal 55 ayat (1) ke-1 KUHP.

Nadiem is suspected of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
