SERANG - The Serang Regency Government formed an integrated cross-agency team to curb truck traffic on the Bojonegara route, Pulo Ampel, following the increasing complaints from residents regarding road congestion and dust due to the congestion of mining transportation vehicles.
Serang Regent Ratu Rachmatuzakiyah said the formation of the team was the result of the main agreement in a cross-sectoral coordination meeting held at the Cilegon Police.
"This integrated team will be tasked with supervising and regulating the field to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of residents," he said, quoted from Antara, Monday, October 13.
The team involved personnel from the Banten Province Transportation Service, Serang Regency Transportation Agency, Cilegon City Transportation Agency, Cilegon Police, and Banten Police.
This step was taken following the increasing activity of trucks transporting non-metal and rock mineral mines (MBLB) which triggered congestion in industrial areas and surrounding settlements.
"One of the main tasks of the team is to supervise the implementation of restrictions on truck operating hours," added Regent Rachmatuzakiyah.
According to the new provisions, MBLB transport vehicles are prohibited from crossing at 06.00 a.m. 09.00 p.m. local time and at 16.00 p.m. local time on the Simpang Bojonegara route Pulo Ampel and East Cilegon (JLS).
Head of the Serang Regency Transportation Agency, Benny Yuarsa, emphasized that this restriction must be obeyed by all mining entrepreneurs and truck drivers.
"Large mining trucks should not operate during peak hours because at that time traffic was heavy and prone to accidents," he said.
In addition, the team will also take action against trucks parked on the shoulder of the road during the hours of restrictions, to maintain the smooth flow of vehicles. Joint personnel will be placed at a number of strategic points to unravel congestion and ensure regulations are implemented.
"There will be officers on standby at locations that have been identified as the main point of congestion," said Benny.
