Invited Suddenly, On Sunday Night Prabowo Immediately Flew To Egypt Present At The Gaza Summit

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to leave for Cairo, Egypt, from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base (Lanud), Jakarta, Sunday, October 12 at midnight, to attend a summit related to peace in Gaza, Palestine, in Sharm el-Sheikh, Red Sea, Egypt, Monday 13 October.

Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi, who is also the spokesman for the President of the Republic of Indonesia, explained that the invitation to attend the summit related to Gaza was sudden, and the President was scheduled to return to his homeland on Monday.

"Earlier, the President told all of us that yesterday he specifically received an invitation," said Prasetyo Hadi in response to ANTARA's question when met in front of President Prabowo's private residence, Jalan Kertanegara, Jakarta, Sunday, October 12 evening.

"It was a bit sudden from a time perspective, but the invitation really asked for the willingness of President Prabowo's presence, because it was part of the continuation of the negotiations which hopefully God willing, it can bring peace in Palestine, especially in Gaza," the Minister of State Secretary added.

Pras, Prasetyo's nickname, said that President Prabowo planned to leave the country at around 23.30 WIB, Sunday. During the visit to Egypt, the President was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

"Earlier, the President conveyed to all of us that to maintain good relations, and that is also from our efforts so far that the President decided to attend the invitation," said Prasetyo Hadi, who during a press conference was accompanied by the Head of the Indonesian Government Communications Agency Angga Raka Prabowo.

The Summit to discuss peace in Gaza will be led by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and with United States President Donald Trump.

The summit is planned to be attended by more than 20 leaders of countries from countries in the West Asia region and other regions, including Southeast Asia.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is also scheduled to attend the summit in Sharm City el-Sheikh on Monday.

In an official statement issued by Egypt and the US, the summit was held to end the war in Gaza, and realize peace and stability in the Middle East, then to start a new phase of security and stability in the region.

President Trump, in his official broadcast, Wednesday (8/10), announced Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of a 20-point peace plan drawn up by the US on September 29 to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

The first phase includes the release of all Israeli prisoners detained in Gaza in exchange for about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from the entire Gaza Strip which took effect on Friday at 12.00 p.m. local time (09.00 a.m. GMT/19:00 p.m. local time).

Then, the second stage of the plan is to regulate the formation of a new government mechanism in Gaza without Hamas participation, the formation of security forces consisting of Palestinians and troops from Arab and Islamic countries, as well as the extension of Hamas weapons.
