Surabaya Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf handed over compensation to 17 guardians of students who were victims of the collapse of the prayer room at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran, Sidoarjo. The handover was carried out at the Tahlil Akbar Syuhada Al Khoziny event which was held at the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management Building (PWNU) East Java, Saturday 11 October.
"Alhamdulillah, we can gather to pray together. The President paid attention from the start to this disaster. I was ordered to accompany the families of the victims in social protection, ranging from compensation, social security, recovery to empowerment," said Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf.
In the event which began with Khotmil Quran, the reading of Surah Yasin, and tahlil, each student guardian received social assistance in the form of compensation of Rp. 15 million and food packages from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Meanwhile, KH Abdul Matin Djawahir said that the students who died in the disaster were believed to be martyrs.
"God willing, they are martyrs. We feel lost in the world, but they, God willing, are in happiness in heaven. This is advice for all of us to learn to accept and take lessons from disaster," he said.
