Minister Of Social Affairs Leave Compensation To 17 Guardian Of Santri Victims Of Disaster At Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School

Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) of the Republic of Indonesia Saifullah Yusuf handed over compensation to 17 guardians of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran, Sidoarjo,

Surabaya Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf handed over compensation to 17 guardians of students who were victims of the collapse of the prayer room at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran, Sidoarjo. The handover was carried out at the Tahlil Akbar Syuhada Al Khoziny event which was held at the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Management Building (PWNU) East Java, Saturday 11 October.

"Alhamdulillah, we can gather to pray together. The President paid attention from the start to this disaster. I was ordered to accompany the families of the victims in social protection, ranging from compensation, social security, recovery to empowerment," said Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf.

In the event which began with Khotmil Quran, the reading of Surah Yasin, and tahlil, each student guardian received social assistance in the form of compensation of Rp. 15 million and food packages from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Also attending this event were the Deputy Rais Syuriah of the East Java PWNU KH Abdul Matin Djawahir, the caretaker of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School KH Abdul Salam Mujib, and the Assistant for General Administration of the Regional Secretariat of East Java Province HA Jazuli who represented the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa.

Sustainable Compensation And Assistance

The Minister of Social Affairs emphasized that the compensation provided was part of the comprehensive handling of victims and their families, which was carried out in stages according to the domicile of the santri family. The initial stage covers the Surabaya area, continued to Madura, Sidoarjo, Central Java, West Java, and outside Java.

"Yesterday I visited two surviving students but had to be amputated, namely Sheikhendra Haical Aditya and Syaifur Rosi Abdillah. I gave encouragement because students were taught to be strong and sincere in dealing with disasters," he said.

In addition to cash assistance, the Ministry of Social Affairs also provides psychosocial assistance, business capital assistance, and skills training for victims' families, based on the results of the specific needs assessment of each family.

"There are those who want to open a shop or shop, later we will assess, train, and provide capital. Those who experience disabilities, we help with tools such as prosthetic feet, wheelchairs, and others, in collaboration with the National Commission for Disabilities," said Saifullah.

Building Audit And Rehabilitation

The Minister of Social Affairs also asked PWNU East Java to cooperate with the East Java Provincial Government through the Public Works Service (PU) to audit Islamic boarding schools, as part of the rehabilitation and prevention process for similar disasters.

Meanwhile, KH Abdul Matin Djawahir said that the students who died in the disaster were believed to be martyrs.

"God willing, they are martyrs. We feel lost in the world, but they, God willing, are in happiness in heaven. This is advice for all of us to learn to accept and take lessons from disaster," he said.

This Tahlil Akbar event is a moment of prayer and reflection, as well as a tangible form of concern for the state and society for the grief that befell the extended family of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School.
